Joel Spolsky on Windows Mesh
Joel Spolsky goes to town on Windows Mesh. We agree synchronisation is not the problem, transit and memory are the problem. Getting stuff from a to b and remembering (for years) that you did so, and not doing the move if its there already.

The windows mesh stuff (technically) is pretty cool. I like what they are trying to do with RSS, even if an extension. If it gets traction its got more widespread potential but MS don’t have a good track record with pushing open source stds (we’ll quickly ignore the EMCA saga recently)
The issue with MESH or whatever they end up calling it is how long b4 it actually settles into the ‘real’ world and is x-platform and stable. That (due to Ms FUD - old IBM tricks) could take a year and with Vista having issues getting corporate traction, Office-in-the-could, failed Yahoo bid, XP coming back 2 life (only ’small Pc’s), Windows Mobile, IE 8 (stds by default eventually) and ‘new’ Windows 7 I think they will have 2 many irons in the fire and not b able 2 give it the right attention it deserves. Without a viable (hide it and just have it working without) distribution platform (windows 7?) it will be hard 4 it 2 get going.
Looks good thou…. time will tell
